Existentialism...

The week of April 12th, our class has been talking about existentalistism which I think is an interesting but hard to understand topic. Existentialism is almost defined by it's slogan; Existence precedes essence. Which means that, Us as people have no predetermined nature or essence that controls what we are, what we do, and what is valuable for us. We are radically free to act independently of determination by outside influences. We create our own human nature through these free choices and we also create are values through these choices. So in the existentialist view we are thrown into existence first without a predetermined nature and only later do we construct our nature or essence through our actions. Existentialism has good points but it lacks the point in human nature that people sometimes need guidance to pursue their goal. Too much freedom can cause people to be confused with how to achieve things in life based on just their free choices.

Do you think people can survive without any type guidance?
